Our final prototype! The Expanding Hydraulic Barrier.

WHY did I pursue this project? Where am I getting my inspiration from?

This was the second half of the CAPSTONE course I pursued in my senior year at Clear Springs High School, in Spring 2018. This CAPSTONE course was known as Engineering Design & Development, and it is the final course that can be taken as part of the AP + PLTW Science & Engineering Career Gateway Elective in High School. For this blog post, I will be focusing on the assembly and testing of the apparatus that was designed the previous semester.

To recap, the problem we chose…

WHY did I pursue this project? Where am I getting my inspiration from?

This is a project that I pursued as a junior in high school at Clear Springs, which was from Fall 2016 to Spring 2017. The course is known today as Engineering Science. There were two main purposes of this project:

  1. To teach us how to effectively use gear ratios to increase the efficiency in the drive train of a vehicle
  2. To expose us to sustainable forms of energy that could be used to fuel cars in the future

The prompt for the project is as…

WHY did I pursue this project? Where did I get my inspiration from?

This is the very first engineering project I have pursued. It was part of a course I took my sophomore year of high school called Intro to Engineering Design. I took this course from Fall 2015 to Spring 2016 at Clear Springs High School. This project was designed for us students to think conceptually about engineering sketches and how we can bring our designs to life.

This was also a time in my life when I was obsessed with Rubiks cubes, which may have also been where…
